Working at SAM
Internship
There are two ways to volunteer at SAM, both of which are vital in supporting the work of the Museum. You can either be a SAM volunteer and work in the galleries, helping to enhance the visitor experience of the Museum, or be a SAM Docent, and receive training on guiding public museum tours and allow visitors to gain insight into our exhibitions.

Be a SAM volunteer

Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting the work of the Museum.
Volunteers contribute to the Museum in different ways. Many volunteers work in the galleries with the public to enhance the visitor’s understanding of the collection and their experience of the Museum.

As a volunteer you will:

  • Find out about the Museum
  • Join training courses conducted by SAM curators
  • Meet new people with interest in arts
  • Develop confidence and learn new skills

Join our team of volunteers enhancing visitors' experiences and enjoyment of the Museum!

To sign up as a volunteer, please kindly download the Programmes Volunteer Registration Form below, complete it and send it to us via mail, fax 63347919 or email us at nhb_sam_programs@nhb.gov.sg.

Be a SAM Docent

Docents are trained guides who conduct public museum tours. They are a vital part of the Singapore Art Museum's success and their contributions have allowed many visitors to gain insight into our exhibitions. To qualify as a museum guide, docents undergo extensive training organised by the museum and our volunteer partners.

The Singapore Art Museum has daily guided tours which are conducted by:

  • Friends of the Museums (Singapore), which also includes the Japanese Docents
They conduct English and Japanese guided tours on weekdays.

  • Museum Volunteers Recruitment for SAM
The Museum Volunteers is recruiting volunteer guides to provide English tours at the Peranakan Museum, the Singapore Art Museum and the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall on the weekends.

Training for each of the museums will be provided, with sessions mostly on Saturday afternoons. Training will be provided in English for Peranakan Museum and Singapore Art Museum. Training will be provided in Mandarin for the Nanyang Memorial Hall.

Potential volunteers should be passionate about the museums, comfortable speaking to groups in English, and have the ability to bring art or artefacts to life for visitors.

For more information, come for either of the information sessions or go to https://sites.google.com/site/museumvolunteers/. Please view the attached flyer for more details.
