Yellow Ribbon Exhibition 2019

Moving Forward Together is the title and theme of this year’s Yellow Ribbon Community Art & Poetry Exhibition – a community-engagement project jointly organised by the Yellow Ribbon Project, Sing Lit Station and the Singapore Art Museum.

The exhibition aims to provide prison inmates with a platform to express their emotions through the therapeutic quality and cathartic nature of contemporary art production. This year, a new poetry initiative – facilitated by Sing Lit Station – has been introduced, allowing for greater diversity in creative output, one that merges visual with literary arts.

Following on from Transitions: Crossroads & Choices, the title and theme of this year's exhibition, Moving Forward Together, attempts to look beyond the struggles faced by the participating inmates to consider more intently their rehabilitative journeys and aspirational dreams.

A total of 101 artworks and 23 poems with accompanying audio readings by male and female inmate artists across the Visual Arts Hub, Changi Prison Complex and Institution A4 will be on view at the exhibition. The artworks and poems presented reveal the complexity of the inmates’ progress towards their determined goals.
