As part of his residency at SAM, PG Lee has taken on the role of a “travelling gardener” with a mission to locate lalang, the stubborn and invasive weed Imperata Cylindrica, all around the city. Motivated by the goal to eradicate lalang from the landscape, while simultaneously experimenting with methods to transform the weed into a more acceptable and useful form, his journey has led to some surprising results.

In this session, join PG and SAM Curator Tamares Goh as they delve into PG’s research into the history of horticulture, environmental planning and landscaping in Singapore. From his findings as a “travelling gardener” in the manicured garden city, PG will share tips and insights into how to effectively rid lalang from the land, as well as showcase the “reformed products” of his lalang experiments.

This programme was hosted as part of Residency Thursday, an ongoing series of activations and presentations led by SAM residents.
