The COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon collective grief and loss, which has in turn led to self-care, or the practice of taking action to improve one’s well-being, becoming a critical site for engagement between the state, civil society actors and corporations. In this way, demarcations between the individual and the collective have come to be blurred. Yet, self-care involves a lot more than merely ‘individual effort’ or ‘collective action’.

In the aftermath of the pandemic, how do we continue practicing self-care for ourselves and for each other? Gula Neraka and ila created this this series of five zine-making workshops, where participants were encouraged to cut, tear, glue, create and rework their creations as an enquiry into notions of self-care.
Each session was open to 8 participants, who will be encouraged to return to the space in consecutive sessions. All materials were provided by Gula Neraka.
