Life Circuit (2009-2016) by Urich Lau is a multimedia installation originally conceived as a video demonstration centred around a wearable device reconstructed from industrial safety equipment. When donned by the artist and activated, the modified gadgets become extensions of a body now hindered from seeing, speaking, or hearing, yet able to stream out audio and video feeds captured from his immediate surroundings.

Re-presented in SAM’s ongoing exhibition Can Everybody See My Screen?, the work is animated by the presence of visitors in the space, touching on subjects of privacy, data collection, and the trading of human touch for digital capabilities.

In this programme, join artist Urich Lau as he discusses the thoughts and processes behind Life Circuit 1.0 — from prototype to performance, and the current 2.0 over a live building session of Life Circuit 3.0. The session will conclude with a demonstration of the work.

This programme is held in conjunction with the SAM exhibition Can Everybody See My Screen?, which runs from 9 Sep – 11 Dec 2022 at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.
