YIP Kai Chun

Community & Education Residency || 01 Mar to 31 May 2022

Yip Kai Chun is an artist-curator born and based in Hong Kong. Neglected history, culture and language of the localities are at the core of his research-based creations, which favour the media of sound, text, video and found objects. The entanglement of Hakkanese and languages at large is an entry point for Yip to examine the topics of generation gap, family, intimacy, and collectivity — topics that community and education often concern. His goal is to make use and take advantage of the resources and connections the SAM Residency provides and develop a project in the context of Singapore whose Hakkanese heritage is in similar decline to Hong Kong.
