Assistant Curator (Residencies), Curatorial & Collections

Full-time Position

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with HOD to ensure curatorial administration, planning and execution, and day-to-day operations of the Residencies and Activations, this involves duties such as site preparation, travel and accommodation planning alongside the processing of visas and subsistence.
    • Develop and drive innovative methods for highlighting artistic, curatorial and exhibitions work processes unfolding at SAM through social and digital media channels.
    • Schedule, plan and execute Residencies and Activations related public and semi-public activations such as lectures, talks and workshops, as well as provide content for collaterals such as website and publicity materials.
    • Work with the HOD/Curator and key stakeholders to create context-responsive discursive Activations hosting artists and curators.
    • Work closely with the Artists and Curators in residence and SAM curators to develop innovative methodologies for new ideas, production and presentation, and curate collaborative and cross-disciplinary projects.
    • Aid visting artists and curators in navigating the cultural terrain of Singapore, Southeast Asia and beyond
    • Build professional networks with contemporary artists, cultural communities and creative partners who may actively engage with the Singapore artistic community.
    • Research and contribute to scholarship on contemporary art, with a view on collections development as and when required
    • Demonstrate thought leadership in the field through sharing of knowledge at conferences, talks and publications by actively engaging with content generated by visiting artists and curators.
    • Manage and administer ad-hoc projects, processes, and procedures, as and when required

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • A graduate or post-graduate degree in contemporary art, art history, visual cultures or related fields
    • A graduate degree in contemporary art, art history, visual cultures or related fields
    • At least 5 years of experience working in a curatorial capacity, preferably with experience in working on public programmes. Recent graduates may also apply.
    • Keen interest in and knowledge of contemporary art practices
    • Excellent research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Fluency in English. Additional language abilities would be ideal
    • Motivated and team-oriented
    • Good project management and organizational skills
    • Attentive to details and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
