Join artist Kim Ga Ram in The AGENDA Hair Salon, a participatory performance where the act of getting a haircut transforms into a space for dialogue, reflection, and exchange. The programme culminates in a screening of the performance and conversation between the artist, curator, and participants, creating a shared moment of connection and insight. The series of programmes is part of The Living Room, an exhibition that concludes a three-part collaboration between Singapore Art Museum (SAM), Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
About the Artist: Kim Ga Ram (b. Seoul, South Korea, 1984)
Kim’s work addresses social and cultural issues through playful participatory experiments. She mainly employs installation, media, and performance to encourage audience participation and empathy, carefully observing various social phenomena around her and seeking to capture the shifting contemporary moment within her artistic experiments. In TheSexyBikini.com, Virgin Candy, #SELSTAR, and #FANTASY, Kim explored the ironic situations in which the meaning of value has changed in recent years, or in which different layers of meaning create conflict in the contemporary era. She has further deepened her engagement with contemporary social issues through works such as 4ROSE Sound Project, AGENDA Hair Salon, and Corona Blue. In her practice, Ga Ram Kim focuses on the social role of art in an ever-changing society, aiming to use the social platform of the art exhibition to create a meaningful space for public dialogue.

Be a part of The AGENDA Hair Salon, artist Kim Ga Ram's ongoing project that transforms a haircut into a powerful socio-cultural statement. Choose a gown with a slogan addressing a contemporary issue you believe in, then engage in conversation with the artist as your haircut unfolds.
Please note that these sessions will be video recorded and may be subsequently presented at the showcase and talk on 30 January, and within the exhibition, The Living Room.
Confirmed participants will be contacted with detailed preparation instructions and final slot confirmation after registration has closed.
Important Information
- The haircut provided by the artist is part of a participatory artwork activation, not a professional hair styling service.
- Participants must arrive with hair that is clean and dry. The artist performs a basic dry cut only (e.g., trimming, basic shaping) and does not wash or style hair.
- Be prepared to engage in a conversation with the artist about the contemporary social issue represented by the slogan on your chosen salon gown.
- Please arrive at least 5 minutes early. A strict 5-minute grace period will be observed. If you arrive after this window, you will be unable to participate, your slot will be immediately offered to the next person on the waitlist, and your deposit will be forfeited.
Cancellation and refunds
- A S$20 refundable deposit is required to secure your 45-minute slot. This deposit will be returned to you upon your attendance and completion of the session. - Your deposit will be forfeited for any no-shows or cancellations made less than 24 hours before your session.
- In the case of cancellation by SAM, all participants will be notified via email. Photography, Audio and Video Recording Please note that there will be photography and/or recording (audio and/or video) at the event. By attending, you consent to your photograph and/or recording (video/audio) being used for future communications both online and offline by SAM for archival, museum-related publicity and publications only.

Step into The AGENDA Hair Salon, an ongoing project by artist and certified hair stylist Kim Ga Ram that turns the simple act of haircutting into a powerful socio-cultural statement. In exchange for a free haircut, participants choose a cutting cape printed with a slogan of their choice – each addressing issues as wide-ranging as life, death, the arts, technology and more – then engage in conversation with the artist as the haircut unfolds. The length of hair they part with becomes a measure of their commitment to the message they wear, turning a personal grooming act into a public performance of values and dialogue.
