Assistant Manager, Programmes

Full-time Position

 

JOB PURPOSE:

To research, plan and implement innovative and inclusive museum-based programmes and resources that address the current and future needs of the museum’s community, which comprises youths, working adults, families and those who require accessibility provisions.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Conduct and engage in research on accessible and inclusive museum services, programmes and best practices to address current and future needs of SAM’s community.
    • Plan and implement research projects that inform SAM’s corporate strategies on accessibility and inclusivity.
    • Quality research that generates insights for lead development of access and inclusion strategies and best practices to address current and future needs of SAM’s community.
    • Enlarge SAM’s community by attracting new museum audiences and extend outreach of SAM, especially towards access target audience of elderly, persons with disabilities and children with special needs.
    • Develop partnerships with social service organisations, other cultural, non-profit and educational collaborators.
    • Work with/learn from above collaborators to better understand specific audience needs for the development of relevant programmes.
    • Plan and implement research projects with target profiles and within ethical guidelines.
    • Increase visitorship for SAM (inward).
    • Increase awareness of SAM to audiences currently outside of SAM’s community (outwards).
    • Innovative, accessible, inclusive and effective museum-based programmes across ages, abilities and backgrounds.
    • Quality research that generates insights on the attitudes of target profiles towards contemporary art and museum-based programmes, access and inclusion to address current and future needs of SAM’s community.
    • Create resources and publications for the museum, suitable for target audience of elderly, persons with disabilities and children with special needs.
    • Conduct research on evidence-based approaches and practices in relevant fields to ensure quality of SAM’s access and inclusion resources and publications.
    • Work with curatorial team, social service organisations, research centres and special education schools to ensure relevance of SAM educational resources and publications to current and future needs of SAM’s community.

    • Identify, engage and grow a pool of volunteers and docents who are interested and committed to delivering access programmes for target audiences.
    • Identify training gaps of volunteers and docents in meeting SAM’s access programmes needs.
    • Review current volunteer and docent engagement strategies and develop new ways of engagement that are more effective.
    • A pool of volunteers and docents who are committed and can be depended to deliver access and inclusion programmes of quality.
    • Handle ad-hoc assignments as and when required.
       
         

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Degree in Arts Management, Art, Education or a related field would be preferred. 
    • At least 4 years of total relevant working experience in Arts and/or Education.
    • Knowledge of research practices in the Arts.
    • Knowledge of contemporary art aesthetics and practices.
    • Proven track record in the area of outreach programme development.
    • Extensive experience working in or with museums/VWOs/event companies.
    • Good interpersonal skills to manage and work with diverse co-workers.
    • Have a strong interest in accessibility through the Visual Arts and museum-based programmes.
    • Team player yet must be able to work independently.
    • Good writing and interpersonal skills.
    • Able to work with tight deadlines.
    • Able to multi-task and work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays and within tight project timelines.
